What is bleed? And do I need it in my design?

Bleed refers to the area of an image or design that extends beyond the finished size of the printed piece. When a design includes bleed, the ink will be printed to the edge of the material and then trimmed down to the final size.

Bleeding is necessary in your design because it allows slight variations in the trimming process and ensures no white borders around the edge of the finished piece.
